Chilly Vinnies CEO sleepout a huge success
Being surrounded by beautiful houses every day gives the Porter Davis Directors a unique appreciation of what homelessness means for the many that sleep the streets at night, which is why each year they take on the chilly Vinnies CEO Sleepout challenge.
On 18 June - just shy of the year’s shortest day, the Directors spent a long night at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, eating the St Vinnies food provisions, with a hot meal of soup and bread, as well as plenty of tea and coffee.
After listening to the plight of the homeless, in particular the women and children fleeing family violence, both Directors felt overwhelmed with gratitude and were humbled by the experience.
On any given night, there are 22,000 people experiencing homelessness in Victoria and over 105,000 experiencing homelessness in Australia – that’s enough to fill the MCG!
Anthony and Paul raised nearly $20,000 to contribute to the record amount of over $1,011,479 in Victoria, and $6 million across Australia, which goes directly to helping and supporting those in need.
- $50 provides a meal and education resource for a disadvantaged child
- $100 ensures a family can keep the power on through winter
- $150 provides emergency accommodation and food to a family in crisis
- $200 could relocate and establish a homeless person into one of the Society’s homeless accommodation services
With a heartfelt thank you, the Directors are so proud to have contributed to such a worthwhile cause that gives back directly to our local communities. You can continue to donate at www.ceosleepout.org.au
