Porter Davis Directors raise over $30,000 for St Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout

The Porter Davis Directors gave up a night of warmth and security to help raise funds for the St Vinnies CEO Sleepout, and in doing so, they proudly raised over $30,000.

The Directors, Anthony Roberts and Paul Wolff talk us through their evening and the spirit of the St Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

We did it.

We survived the St Vinnies CEO Sleepout and we’re humbled by the overwhelming generosity and support of our peers, colleagues and friends. We’d like to take a moment to say a heart felt thank you and share our experience.

For the rest of winter

We’ll snuggle safely into our comfortable beds with a full tummy, sheltered from the elements in the warmth of our home, with our loved ones close and our treasures secure.

We gave it up for just one night

Giving up one night of comfortable sleep for the annual St Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a small sacrifice for us to make, but one that has helped us raise over $30,000. In total, 148 Victorian CEO’s slept out in Melbourne for the cause, raising over $450,000 collectively, while across Australia the Vinnies CEO Sleepout has raised $5.3 million to assist homeless services and those in need.

The phrase “those in need” is often misleading

During the course of the evening, which involved simple but hearty soup, bread, a basic sleeping bag, beanie and a hard floor, we heard directly from those who have found themselves homeless. One story stood out to us the most because it didn’t involve drugs or alcohol and we saw that homelessness really doesn’t have a stereotype.

Trauma drives homelessness

John Blewonski, CEO of VincentCare, spoke on the night about how trauma drives homelessness and unfortunately, homelessness then drives trauma exposure. The cycle continues in a downward spiral, as trauma drives social difficulties and mental health problems.

Breaking the cycle

Community support is a key element in breaking the cycle. We are privileged with our access to education, family, friend and colleague support and we are proud to utilise and share our business knowledge and network to support the community through challenges like the St Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

It dropped to 11 degrees

I can tell you when it’s your back on the floor with just a sleeping bag for warmth, comfort and security, it is not only cold but bleak and isolating, so let’s help build our community to deliver hope, support, assistance and encouragement to those who need it most.

We thank you

Your generous support helps to support the communities in which we build, work, live, socialise and educate our own children. You can continue to donate at www.ceosleepout.org.au

  •  $50 can provide a meal and educational resource for a disadvantaged child.

  •  $100 can help ensure a family keeps its power on this winter.

  •  $200 provides emergency accommodation and food to a family in crisis.

  •  $500 could relocate and establish a homeless person into one of the Society’s homeless accommodation services.

  •  $1,000 would pay the rent for a family facing eviction from their home.

We are truly blessed in our lives for the simple things such as security of our warm home, warm showers and regular meals and while it’s hard to imagine that homelessness could happen to you, it's a reality many face every day.
